I've figured mirrorverse aral/simon out thanks to this post.

it's all about the simon illyan unrequited pining. simon sublimating his desire into that unquestioning loyalty and devotion. longing one day for the collar that would mark him as aral vorkosigan's dog. the best he can hope for is aral holding his metaphorical leash. seething with envy at oliver.
alys finds this kind of embarrassing but doesn't let it get in the way. gregor finds it annoying that his chief of security wants nothing more to be collared by his prime minister - if he ever decides to get rid of aral that's something he'll have to accommodate for. this somehow makes it less ... hmm, not embarrassing, but ... revealing? for him to ask simon to find him some agreeable subjects for his use. also he had already decided simon is out, but this definitely solidifies that: two is a pattern of aral's sloppy seconds.
separating them by sending aral to sergyar is a good idea. he can even have his more favorite little boyfriend after all.
unsavory commentary about aral's hobby of picking up proles. his father let them into the army you know. makes you wonder. (hope piotr never hears that rumor.)
as for aral, well, he's wise enough to tell simon he's a good boy just enough, and make him kneel just enough, and even take him to bed once in a while. he understands you have to motivate your troops, you know. especially the ones who don't forget how good it feels when you fuck them.
