it’s pickle’s favorite part of any fandom.. making AUs of AUs:

khrabanas, the couple
symbol: a bloody skull, in two perfectly matched pieces, with a red braid. occasionally the skull is shown with a bloody flesh hand stabbing a dagger into it.
domains: (naturally) pain, partnership, undeath, knowledge, power
(acquired from killing the crawling king): torturers, slavers, jailers
the couple are (always referred to in plural tense) amalgamated god-entities, rumored in their individual lives to have been a powerful wizard and a lich. having ascended to godhood and, in ways scholars continue to study, passed through the divine gate, they promised the prime deities to stay on this side of the gate, and rather than spark a second calamity that could have destroyed the gate, the prime deities agreed. there they destroyed the attacking crawling king, seeing them as interfering in his work, and consumed his domains and worship.
the raven queen absolutely loathes the couple and seeks to rally the other gods to destroy them. while the couple's undead leanings make the obvious reason, there are whispers of another reason for her deep hatred.
the couple are obsessed with giving and receiving pain; representations of them, usually a red-haired woman and a skeleton, often show them bloodily murdering each other.
cults of the couple often require prospective members to both lead a human sacrifice as well as engage in self-mutilation, which varies from sect to sect, but generally is cutting off a digit, scarification, or branding. these cults are typically constructed of wizards (often necromancers) who pursue knowledge at all cost. cults of the couple are kept secret, as they are pursued and wiped out by followers of the prime deities wherever they are found, with no exceptions. while cults (and worshipers) of the couple are willing to share knowledge, organizations that associate with them tend to discover that anything they learn from the cult isn’t worth the gruesome violence of their rituals, including human sacrifices.
worshipers of the couple always come in pairs or are seeking a second to make their pair. once an adequate second is found (if one of the potential pair finds the other inadequate, it’s a race to see who can sacrifice the other first), the two engage in a ritual of sexual sadomasochism, during in which most worshipers say they see the couple at the peak of their suffering. this bond lasts for eternity, and many couples pursue methods of undeath to continue their coupling far past their natural lifespan. the bond between these two worshipers is the most sacred thing to the pair, and even the most powerful agents report that the bonded cultists will not abandon or turn on their partner no matter the cost. if any other worshipper of the couple discovers that a pair has split, both are hunted without rest and are tortured for weeks before they die.
a solitary pair in worship of the couple typically pursue arcane knowledge and political power, though their tendency for gruesome murder makes them better co-dictators of bandit groups, raiding beast clans, or other illegal/non-civilized social structures. more often, these pairs become hermits in some terrible ruin or wood, gathering cursed objects and snaring travellers for their sacrifice to their gods.
