Ironflint prompty-prompt: Alex tries to make Washington jealous; Washington takes the bait.

They were at a networking event, with poaching intentions. There were three people that Washington wanted to hire: one software engineer, one HR manager, and one top-tier executive. The middle one Alex had the most confidence with, being that she was a person of color - they made a good little statement for diversity between his boss being black and him being Puerto Rican. The software engineer was just a matter of identifying the problems they liked to solve. (Alex disliked them, intently so, and their shit opinions on ‘disruption,’.).

the last, the executive, was more interesting. i twas difficult to make them leave their jobs, when they didn’t want to leave. they had all kinds of things going on. projects. dynamic, multiyear strategies. few wanted to start over, unless they had failed. They needed a different approach. Especially because Washington was a polarizing figure; sometimes people disliked the company completely for him, and in fact in this case their target did.

But.

Alex did have an idea. This idea so far had no cons that he could find, and many pros. Pros from all angles.

He saw the man across the room and gathered himself up, walking over. The man looked - something off. Jaw too round, shoulders not broad enough. Not like him, skinny. More like ….

Well, Alex though, diversity was key. He placed all of this to the side. Now for working. “I’m Alex Hamilton,” he said, and offered a hand, “I work for Mr. Washington.”

“Do you?” The man said, and looked him up and down with obvious interest. Alex resisted the fistpump. He could usually make a pretty good guess on if a person fell into a) knew Washington was gay b) knew they were fucking c) suspected one or d) suspected both. This guy was probably in the last category. And if he didn’t like Washington, then he might enjoy Alex’s attention.

“Yeah,” he said, and took a step into the man’s personal space, “It’s tough work. He pushes me pretty hard.”

“He’s a demanding man.”

“I know.” Inflected just the right tone into his voice. The man grinned at him and touched his shoulder, “But the benefits are really good.”

“Matching?”

“A lot of it.”

The man laughed, but then his eyes flicked away from Alex, then back. Alex fought the urge to look, but he knew what was being followed. Washington was appraising them and him. Jealously, most likely. It was incredible how jealous Washington could be, and all the way insist he wasn’t. No one could play that game like Washington. at least he KNEW that he was a fuck-up.

“Your boss doesn’t look that happy that we’re talking.”

Alex smirked. “I don’t know that. I’m not looking at him.”

(Later Washington nearly choked him hard enough to pass out. Alex promised he wasn’t going to leave the company. That’s what Washington wanted to hear, of course. Becuase you couldn’t tell that man I won’t leave you.)
