i was going through your ironflint tag recently and remembered a short where alex was sent to placate a bunch of older dudes in a gangbang? like, he was rented out and sent on behalf of washington or something? i just remember that idea and im wondering how often that happened in ironflint verse, whether alex being sent by washington as payment for something, or washington putting him in his place/exerting control, like "you belong to me, do this thing"?
i don’t think washington whoring alex out to his friends is a common occasion, and mostly i believe that because alex doesn’t like being whored out, and certainly not to washington’s fat-cat business interests.
most of the things washington has alex do, alex likes doing. alex likes processing information, writing reports, creating solutions to problems, bending information to his will. alex likes taking information and spitting out answers. alex likes knowing things, all kinds of things.
but later in their relationship - and i think whoring something out is something you do later in the relationship - washington would realize that when alex does things he doesn’t want to do, he expects to be paid back. the people washington would whore him out to wouldn’t really satisfy alex’s tastes, so he’d say “i’ll do this, but you owe me.” washington would have realized by this point that it’s dangerous to owe alex, so asking him to do things he really doesn’t want to do is something that should be avoided, if possible.
in summary: washington knows alex (in animal metaphors) isn’t trained, isn’t domesticated. isn’t broken. he needs to be chained and muzzled, and there is no reason other than positive reinforcement that hamilton doesn’t turn on washington. so washington saying “you belong to me, do this thing” could definitely backfire really badly, and since alex is first a resource, there’s no reason to be an asshole.
ironflint washington exerts control/puts people in their place for the point of obtaining and keeping power. it isn’t personal. he’s power-hungry, but he isn’t a megalomaniac, if that makes sense. him losing control and putting alex in his place in some specific way is something he would avoid - he’d only do it if alex baited him into it.
that’s a long answer. hope i covered your question.
