3 for whamilton?
you’re too good for me.
Over the years Washington had kept plenty of secrets. Plans that needed to be revealed at the right moment; strategies that had to seem different to work; back-room arrangements that he could never be see as undignified as engaging in, because people thought his work was glorious - and so on. And he had learned many different ways to hide those secrets, depending on the person.
Hamilton was a new challenge. Hamilton was as vicious an information-seeker as a maggot on a fresh battlefield. Even keeping the planning of the hiding presented a monumental effort.
But they did not call him the greatest general of the age for nothing. He could be cunning when it was needed, and deceitful, and underhanded. The whole process was disguised. The scaffolding was for some repair, and dangerous, and he had purchased a new book or ten for his husband to be distracted with, and encouraged his discussions.
Until.
Until Hamilton sat at breakfast and ate with poor manners and thought the day was nothing to celebrate. But Washington knew better, and they went for a walk, and sitting in the clearing was a workshop. It had been one of his best deceptions. He caught his husband before the man fell from shock.
“I do not deserve this,” Hamilton said, staring at him.
“I think that you do,” Washington said, and Hamilton stared at him.
“You do too much in my name.”
“I think I do not.”
