i think they’re both very different people when they’re in the privacy of their own home and only with each other. like there’s definitely some of the letting down your guard among close friends (j laurens, h knox, eliza, etc..) but even so there’s another step when it’s just the two of them in a place where they won’t be disturbed. and i definitely think there’s that “oh, he’s different when it’s just us” (especially about hamilton) that a lot of people don’t buy. so that’s fun. but i also think there’s some set limit about how much “playful washington” hamilton gets to spout off about, even though he would brag about washington bringing him coffee in bed until the cows came home if he was allowed.

but yes. it allows a much-needed vulnerability between them. until they get into a really stupid fight. then they have to do the whole process over again. and so on.

i also think that washington really likes doing little house things for hamilton. he feels a whole lot more useful, and gets a much quicker positive response from bringing his husband coffee than he does, you know, fighting about the government all day. so it makes him feel good. (i think that at some point washington probably stopped, and hamilton noticed. and said ‘are you mad at me? you stopped bringing me coffee?” and washington went “you didn’t look up from your book so i didn’t think you noticed.” and hamilton said “I noticed.” and washington said, “im sure you knew i was there, but.” so from then on hamilton makes an effort, unless he’s reading/writing in a real frenzy, to always acknowledge these small acts. and i’m sure this comes up int heir fights.)

and also i think him making the little extra effort to let hamilton knows that he cares is important, becuase privilege, him pretending to be cold and distant in public, etc.
