Tell us more about the adventures of the women of Greenhouse Verse?

angelica:

- was obviously a socialite even before the second war, but was assigned a bunch of troops and engaged in all kinds of mostly victorious, non-traditional war activities. so she’s both famous for being a schuyler and a church and also a pretty decent military mind. (alex was assigned to her battalion, which is how they met). she would desperately like to be more involved in the running of the country, but it’s hard to manage that with all the other facets she displays, and of course her dad loves her too much to get her involved in all this shit, which is the opposite of what she actually wants. (there’s more of her in actual greenhouses upcoming.)

eliza:

- didn’t like peggy shippen much when their marriage was arranged. as a person who really believes in the greater good of people, she saw peggy shippen as someone who was perhaps not actively malicious, but always thinking, always being cunning, always trying to figure out the best answer. while angelica was like this too, eliza had lots of evidence that she did so in a good way - and with peggy she had none. so it was really tough for her to be with peggy shippen for a while, even though she was (dutiful daughter and all that). but i think she eventually realized that peggy shippen was super strong and resolute, and the sort of person you could rely on when you needed someone to rely on, and i think the first time something really upset eliza and peggy was so ferocious at them, eliza was just like oh, maybe you are okay, but this will be okay. they’re a lot more into each other now than they used to be.

martha:

- was born into wealth. in her first relationship with george, he was from a class where arranged marriage wasn’t sort of the default, and trying to court someone a step above him was a huge part of him trying to upgrade his rank and status. lawrence was proud as fuck! and she was lucky that she had not yet been arranged and could court him (it was a whispered scandal that a dandrige was courting a surveyor she had not been arranged to, even if the surveyor was lawrence washington’s little brother.) but he broke it off when lawrence died and he was too far miserable to like… actually care what it looked like. and martha could have said “no, we’re still going to be married,” because she was the higher status of the two of them, but she didn’t. also she’s the best.

and peggy!

picks locks.
