What would the first interaction between Alex and Washington have been like if there weren't an arranged marriage to make Alex bitter and angry about the entire situation?
Hamilton and Washington definitely met before they were arranged marriage, as while Hamilton probably wouldn’t have gone to any events at Mount Vernon, he would have been obligated to make an appearance at anything that Philip Schuyler held at their estate, and Washington would have likely shown up there. So Washington would have known of Hamilton and probably small-talked him a few times - Philip Schuyler’s adopted recluse bookworm veteran son, that shows up in any of Schuyler’s events for a compulsory 20 minutes where he drank one glass of wine and danced with Eliza Schuyler and then disappeared.
And of course Hamilton, being a soldier, knew plenty about Washington As General (a la The Great Unifier.) In fact some of his assery comes from the great distance in Real Washington from Great Unifier Washington, which, as you know, is a central theme in the story.
Hope that is a good answer.
