c) also you know the Fat Hamilton letters between Angelica and Eliza and Philip Schuyler? Can you imagine Hamilton putting on some weight? My guess Washington will be perfectly okay with it, but Hamilton will not?

i don’t know the fat hamilton letter. but i could definitely see greenhouses hamilton getting a little chubby because he probably has these long periods where he just sits in his study for like hours and writes (… duh). and sometimes washington would be like “do you want to go for a ride?” and alex will be like NOT NOW I’VE ALMOST GOT IT. and of course by the way people just bringing him three meals. so the chub happens.

then one day alex complains that his breeches are fitting oddly and perhaps they have been mishandled?

and washington’s like “mishandled?” [eyebrows go into forehead]

“yes, mishandled.” like, did he misspeak?

washington’s not saying anything but alex is like WHAT. what is it. out with it. right now.

and washington’s like “usually, you know, if you just sit at your desk for hours and hours and hours and never engage in any work like ride or garden and just pour food down your gullet, that means you are ‘mishandled’, not the clothes.”

“I could do that previously!”

“when you were 28.”

this also provides the mental image of alex being like “i’ll just stick around with your exercise regime,” and like alex is wildly out of shape and can’t keep up at all. can’t keep up with his husband 20 years older than him. goddamnit.
