Re: family structure and same-sex couples in greenhouses, as an example we have Philip Schuyler's kids: Angelica (married to someone with whom she can have bio kids with her spouse), Eliza (married to someone with whom she can't have bio kids with her spouse), Alex (adopted, married to someone with whom he can't have bio kids with his) spouse), and Peggy (do we know?). So out of four kids, only one is confirmed as able to pass rank on through bloodline, with adoption maybe being possible for them
It almost makes me want to get out some sort of family tree version of Punnett squares and mumble about rank passed through blood vs adoption (and presumably education). With adoption being possible common, it seems that there would be a lot of emphasis on people being educated/raised to their ranks, with bloodline being secondary. Having manners, customs, education, etc, in common becomes more of an indication of rank than whether or not you physically resemble your parents. And I have officially spent too much time thinking about this now DX
1. peggy’s married to stephen van rensselaer, so they can have kids. also the thing with alex + gwash is that already having two kids married that could have bio kids to rich people, it’s way more of an advantage to phillip to marry alex off to the highest status person and kids not being a consideration.
2. something about this, it sounds good. (it would also include why it was such a big deal for alex to act his class once he was adopted, and why he sort of squirreled himself away instead of doing it.)
3. it would also explain why it’s so important for GW to act in the way that he has to act even though he actually doesn’t care.
4. other things… i’m sure..?
