If he WERE able to pull off the surprise party, would Washington act like, super put out and kind of like he didn't like it, but then be secretly really touched Hamilton went to the trouble?

a) i think would have a pretty serious startle. he has not been so startled in a long time.

b) he would be so genuinely fucking touched that alex went through this huge damn effort to celebrate him, to celebrate being with him, to celebrate him getting older (he understand the age difference is weird, even if it’s not SUPER unusual in greenhouses verse) - and that he tried to do so AS A SURPRISE - a person who is NOT good at holding back his opinions - like, even though it’s a small gathering, obviously it was a serious undertaking.

c) he would be honestly too touched to even pretend to be annoyed, after he managed to swallow back his throat from the startle. like, what did he do to deserve this? etc.
