I absolutely adored the last answer about Hamilton being jealous. I can only imagine Washington was a little bit smug about it, even if his husband's distress did bother him.
i think that it’s definitely likely that hamilton is secretly jealous … somewhat often, even! - because the people that washington generally consorts with are much more impressive, politically speaking, than him. (not that that is really that difficult). washington probably spends time with kings and very famous and rich people, just for the sake of politics. and obviously he isn’t threatened by any of geroge’s military bros, but being told “I have to hang out with one of the richest men in all of france,” and you’ve seen his portrait, and you’re here, and he’s so FAR AWAY, and you KNOW you’re an unruly young husband who is needy and obnoxious… well.
i think the first time alex became jealous, washington really upset - like, obviously he is a devoted husband, do you see what the fuck he goes through becuase he loves you? like, was it something he said? how can he prove his devotion? but then after a while he realizes this is sort of par for the course, he becomes a little pleased, becuase this is obviously hamilton’s weird way of expressing affection and pride in washington being his husband, and thinking washington’s so great.
washington would merely wonder if any of these men have written books like him? or are such proud military veterans? or [spoiler spoiler spoiler]? and alex says no, HE did those things, and washington says, well, you may know i desire the man of those traits, and some crown will not convince me otherwise.
