greenhouses wash taking care of alex when alex refuses to take care of himself
washington had always considered himself a strong judge of another person, and he thought only having considerable skill allowed him to reach the next level of understanding when hamilton was ill, or at least discomforted. he was a man who showed no weakness, and thought it a strength.
washington knew better, though he kept that to himself.
he was woken in the middle of the night by a frigid blast of air, and realized only afterwards that hamilton had not only kicked off all their blankets. he frowned, and forced himself to listen to the sound of footsteps and muttering that usually accompanied hamilton waking up in the middle of the night. none of that. he pulled the blankets over him again and lit the candle at his bedside.
oh, there was his husband, curled at the corner of the bed and shivering in his nightshirt. washington let the candle flicker and reached over to touch a hand to his face: burning with fever. hamilton grumbled a complaint.
“stay in bed,” he said, and then he rolled out of bed, picked up the candle and found himself a pair of breeches, “I will fetch you some warm broth.”
“you will do no such thing,” hamilton muttered at him.
“you cannot stop me, sir, becuase you are laying in bed,” washington retorted, and then he pulled the blankets over his husband again, and tucked them firmly under the mattress, as if such a thing would prevent the man’s escape.
