alex decided, one day, to cut all his hair off. washington would be pleased - one of his favorite passive-aggressive comments to make was noting that his hair was unprofessional. washington did like to pull it, though, and alex did like to have it pulled, although Washington would never indicate he was disappointed in that kind of thing. it was only that it tended to fall out in inconvenient chunks when he was in a bad mood and stopped sleeping and ate takeout that Washington ordered for him, and that was annoying. So he cut it all off and looked at himself in the mirror. He looked younger, somehow. Same amount of tired and asshole. But different. He tipped the guy and walked out into the street. His head felt very light. It was weird. Nothing brushed against his ears. Whatever. He put his sunglasses on and went home. Washington had not yet disturbed his Saturday with some shitty work thing, amazingly. He flopped into his computer chair and took off his shirt. Then, grinning, he snapped a selfie of his new self to his boss.

You look more professional now. Washington texted back, almost immediately. That was unusual. He wondered what his boss was doing, right now.
