there are several bad things about this:

1) he told alex no fucking fucking around, this is important. they’re playing the acquiring game and he wants their talent and he’s gotta convince the talent that they should come so he doesn’t have to acquire the whole company, if he can get them to jump ship it saves them a lot of time and a lot of effort and he can just give them regular fucking bonuses …

despite this …

2) washington is practically WAITING for alex to drag him away

3) he is vaguely aroused by the thought of alex dragging him away

4) he has some vague self-loathing about this

and of course after alex charms the talent, talks about how great the company is, how much freedom there is, they can pursue whatever projects they want, and the benefits are great, flexible PTO, george is great, it’s such a great mission, it’s such a great company, blah blah blah

alex comes over to him and tell him all about the talent, what they like, what he suckered out of them about what they don’t like about the current company (fuck their bug process is so shitty, all the QA folks are assholes, and fuck there’s this one PM that is just - the biggest fucking piece of shit - ugh - and the catered food is so bad – ).

washington notes it. make some suggestions about their next steps. they should bring them in for lunch. take them out. there’s that great sushi place – and he knows just the guy to woo them. actually, he’s here! one of their head engineers (alex calls him “OF” but washington doesn’t remember what it stands for). alex convinces them to talk to the guy, who’s easygoing and a little nervous, perfectly unthreatening. alex presses against his thigh and twirls there fingers together.

“you know, i could probably blow you before they noticed you’re gone. wait. i definitely could.”

“no,” he says. alexander smirks at him.

“well, i’m going to go powder my nose.” alexander says, and slinks off, lithe and sexy and washington hates the curdling heat in stomach.
