ok, so i’ve been thinking about this for a while and this is the conclusion that i came to: i don’t think ironflint alex has been in that many like “relationships,” and for a couple of reasons.

1. as a kid and young adult i’m sure he was exceptionally self-conscious about his living situation, which was probably partially homeless, sometimes in foster care, sometimes living out of a shelter, sometimes on mulligan’s couch… etc. so i wonder what happens if you’re 15 year old alex and you’ve managed to finally score a girlfriend but now there’s this hyper-anxious situation about like “oh, i’m sleeping in a shelter” and there’s no WAY someone who’s as sensitive to things as alex would ever let anyone know this kind of thing, right? so whenever like, that came up, he’d sooner end the thing rather than let someone know sometimes he sleeps on mr. mulligan (your notable english teacher)’s couch.

2. alex in college could end up here! especially becuase, you know, he meets girls and guys at parties, he’s fun at parties, he’s smart, he makes you laugh, what a great significant other, right? usally alex fucks it up but it’s “never his fault.” he would totally be a gaslighting asshole (”you’re freaking out over nothing” “it’s not a big deal” “look, i slept with him, but it didn’t mean anything. i care about YOU.” “why are you making me so upset over this? i didn’t do anything wrong!”). i but could you imagine if someone did. if he was like “look, i really car eabout his girl, i’m going to stop doing so many party drugs and really try to keep my dick in my pants and stop studying and we’ll hang out” and then he gets a whiff or a rumor and like. he would be so pissed. he would just be like this is every part of his childhood coming back, no one will ever care about him, he has no one, he can trust no one, there is no one in his life worth caring about, everyone abandons him, etc. he would definitely be out to destroy whoever cheated him by a lot. and then he would stick to FWB/NSA shit becuase, well. he forgot that he couldn’t trust or count on anyone, but thanks for reminding him, life.
